Scope and Services for Mynet's Regions

Mynet also has plans for the needs of the communities within our region and state.

Mynet, as a free enterprise, operates out of the Cumberland Gap region in Kentucky, close to several notable institutions. These include Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN, the University of Kentucky Southeast in Middlesboro, KY, the Cumberland Gap College in Barbourville, KY, and the historic Clear Creek Bible College in Pineville, KY—all within a twenty-mile radius of Mynet Headquarters. Furthermore, not far from here is Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Tennessee, which is now the US Department of Energy research center devoted to such things as renewable energy and energy efficiency research. And additionally, north of us is IBM with its worldwide headquarters in Lexington. Which was the first high tech computing center in the states, established before Silicon Valley. And who knows, what sort of artificial intelligence IBM has brewed up in Lexington. They are the world leaders in research and business computers. Actually, they were one of the first to offer AI solutions with mainframe hardware.

When I was younger, I was involved in electronics, and I still am. Back then, I lived near Louisville and often visited several local companies that sold electronic parts, like semiconductors and high-tech electronics testing equipment, which were distributed locally and across the USA. These businesses also supplied parts inventories for various industries. At the time, General Electric at Appliance Park was one of Louisville’s largest employers, and now it has returned, once again becoming a major industry there. I think people sometimes stereotype Kentucky and don’t realize we live in the twenty-first century, with all kinds of visions for the future—especially given the impressive things Kentucky has accomplished in the past.

My vision is to allow this region of the world to lead itself, following its vision. And hence, to not be led by the visions of Silicon Valley, since we have our own history and culture on this side of the Rockies. We have our own business interest and industries.

These days, in the twenty-first century, technology and communication are everywhere. Satellite TV dishes sit on nearly every home, and those without them stream shows through their internet providers. Plus, web developers can be found in almost every county across the U.S, helping local businesses get online and promote their locations and brands.

While Mynet’s vision stretches beyond these hills to other regions of the nation and into a vast marketplace of ideas, technology, services, and countless brands and products, our number one focus remains on meeting the needs of the communities and businesses in our region and state. From Louisville to Middlesboro, and across the state in every direction, we’re committed to serving our local area first.

Our online community aims to go beyond a single niche, embracing a wide range of interests and inviting the visions of anyone who wants to join. Whether it’s enjoying time with family and friends locally, staying connected online, sharing ideas and information, offering entertainment or insights, or supporting regional and statewide businesses and institutions, we strive to be a space for everyone. We offer networking tools that help people excel in online creativity, expression, and business networking, with both free advertising options and paid network-wide promotions through our Ad Server.

These days, expectations for internet technologies are higher than they were just a few years ago, especially as technology and the way people shape social media continue to evolve. Everyone should be part of the process, with social media meeting users’ needs and goals, helping them communicate more effectively and creatively. That requires providing the right tools—something you might not always see in the typical, somewhat narrow Silicon Valley vision for social media. Why settle for a scratch pad when you could be painting a picture?
